Standard procedures for replacing and refilling lubricating oil in high-pressure plunger pumps

The high-pressure plunger pump is the core component of high-pressure cleaning equipment. Lubricants are crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of the pump’s crankshaft, connecting rod, bearings, and other transmission components. Proper refueling and oil-change cycles can effectively reduce equipment wear, prevent oil leaks, insufficient pressure, and abnormal noises, thereby significantly extending the lifespan of the plunger pump. This is a critical aspect of equipment maintenance.

The oil maintenance for high-pressure plunger pumps consists of routine oil replenishment and periodic oil replacement. The maintenance standards vary depending on the different stages of use and operating conditions. Firstly, during the new machine’s initial operation phase, there may be fine iron shavings and wear debris within the internal components of a newly manufactured or extensively overhauled plunger pump. It is essential to strictly adhere to the initial maintenance guidelines. After the equipment has operated for a cumulative total of 50 hours, the lubricant must be replaced completely for the first time to remove the wear debris generated during operation, thereby preventing particle wear of precision components and laying the foundation for the long-term stable operation of the equipment.

During normal operation, there is no need for regular refueling cycles. It is essential to conduct daily inspections. Before turning on the machine, inspect the oil level indicator on the pump body to ensure that the oil level is between the upper and lower markings and that it is below the lower marking. If the oil becomes white, emulsified, dark, thick, or if impurities increase, do not wait for a fixed cycle; instead, replace the oil immediately.

Under normal commercial operating conditions, where the equipment is used intermittently daily, the environment is clean, and the water quality meets standards, a plunger pump only needs its lubricant to be replaced every 500 hours. For industrial heavy-load operating conditions, where equipment operates continuously for 24 hours, the environment is dusty, and there is prolonged high-pressure operation, equipment wear occurs more quickly, necessitating shorter intervals, with oil changes every 300 to 400 hours. Additionally, there are strict maintenance principles: equipment with low usage frequency and insufficient cumulative working hours must have its oil replaced every year to prevent oil oxidation, water absorption, and deterioration, as well as corrosion of internal components.

When performing maintenance, special gear oil should be used. Recommended types include 85W-90, GL-4/GL-5, or ISO VG68 antiwear gear oil. Mixing different types of oil is prohibited. Implementing standardized procedures for refueling and oil changes can effectively reduce equipment failure rates and ensure stable pressure and efficient operation of high-pressure plunger pumps.
